Romania’s Full Schengen Membership & Visa Policy

As of January 1, 2025, Romania is fully integrated into the Schengen Area, including air, sea, and land borders. This means that travelers coming from another Schengen country can now enter Romania without border controls, ensuring a seamless travel experience for all attendees of the conference.

Who Needs a Visa?

• EU/EEA/Swiss Citizens: Do not need a visa and can enter Romania with a valid passport or national ID.
• Schengen Visa Holders: If you have a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa (Type C) or residence permit from a Schengen country, you can travel to Romania visa-free for short stays (up to 90 days in a 180-day period).
• Non-EU Citizens: Many non-EU citizens (e.g., USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Japan) can enter visa-free for up to 90 days, while others need a visa.

Applying for a Romanian Visa

• Type of Visa: Short-stay visa (Type C) for conferences and professional events
• Processing Time: 10–15 business days (apply at least 4–6 weeks before travel)
• Required Documents:
  • Valid passport (must be valid for at least 3 months after departure from Romania)
  • Invitation letter from the conference organizers
  • Proof of accommodation and travel itinerary
  • Travel medical insurance (minimum coverage of 30,000 EUR)

Customs & Entry Requirements

• Currency Regulations: No restrictions on bringing money into Romania, but amounts over €10,000 must be declared.
• Health & COVID-19 Regulations: No current restrictions, but it is recommended to check updates before travel.
